Folding a Map

APORIE I know it's an overused phrase but this album really feels like a journey - there are so many so different and so heavy hitting moods in here, from the adventurous, building up two first openers to the deep, overwhelmingly spooky and sad 'Basamum', the lonely-feeling 'Kingfisher', the otherworldly 'Landing Stage' and finally the friendly, hopeful 'Endless Summer'. Favorite track: Basamum.

The Lifted Index Ambient music that is equal parts mystery and open-hearted beauty, Folding a Map is shot through with the spirit of 70s prog rock but with none of the ego. An absolute must-listen for ambient music lovers. Favorite track: Kingfisher.

about

This album was improvised and recorded live over a period of several months across a distance of over 2,000 miles. The three of us got together on weekend mornings and evenings, hooked up our instruments to computers, just hung out and played music. Eventually, we had an album.

None of us knew each other that well when we started, but over the past year of playing together, we've become pretty close. It's been a crazy year: three separate moves, one wedding, and one newborn, and we've all been glad to have some time to relax and make some music.

This album you have in your hands here is a record of that, a snapshot of these moments in time and the friendship that grew out of them. And even though hearing this won't transport you back to those moments when we created it, I hope it conveys what we felt then nonetheless.

about

Black Fountains

Most bands that play and record together tend to live in the same city. This album was recorded in three different states separated by thousands of miles. Redefining what it means to be in a band in the 21st century, Black Fountains moves beyond traditional notions and the arbitrary lines that divide us. Geography is destiny but boundaries collapse when folding a map. ... more
